Worked Examples

The chart can be used to find the mileage between some Scottish towns and cities.

Find the distances between:

(a)

Fort William and Perth,

To find the distance between Fort William and Perth look in the square where the two highlighted lines meet. So the distance is 103 miles.

(b)

Edinburgh and Stranraer.

Using the same approach for Edinburgh and Stranraer gives 123 miles.

(c)

Which two places are furthest apart?

The largest number in the table is 249.

Using the highlight, this is the Stranraer. So these two places are furthest apart (249 miles).
